Monday February 27, 2023- "The Searchlight of Heaven"

Lent is a season for spiritual deepening and renewal, and one way we do that is by inviting God to examine our heart and life.  The goal is to be in sync with the will of God for our lives; we want Him to reveal to us any area of being out of step with the Spirit.  We want to be cleansed from any (wilful) sin that may be found in our hearts.

A hymn that especially speaks to this is "Cleanse Me" by J. Edwin Orr.  It epitomizes the attitude withwhich we should come to a time of renewal or revival.  The first verse says "Search me, O God, and know my heart today.  Try me, O Savior; know my thoughts, I pray.  See if there be some wicked way in me; Cleanse me from every sin and set me free."

It continues on three more verses; I invite you to look it up, to read it prayerfully, and invite God to do in you just what the song says.  Invite God to turn on the searchlight of heaven and ask Him to cleanse away anything that keeps you from being "in step with the Spirit" (Galatians 5:25).    As Paul prayed for the believers at Thessalonica, "May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. . . the one who calls you is faithful, and He will do it" (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24).
