Holy Week Friday April 10, 2020 Intercession for deliverance from destructive addictions
April 10, 2020, 8:49 AM

We come to Friday of the week leading up to Easter, commonly called Good Friday, when Jesus hung onthe cross.  It was a horrific day for Jesus but "good" in the sense that without the act of sacrifice that Jesus subjected Himself to that day we ALL would be hopelessly, eternally lost.

As we intercede in special prayer and fasting for victory over the virus and a  great turning of hearts in our great nation back toward God, my special emphasis for today is deliverance from destructive addictions.  Our country is ravaged by mind altering, physically destructive substances.  How much pain and suffering is caused by these.  How violated the heart of God is when we fail to take into account that we are to be temples of the Holy Spirit, bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and we are responsible for the reasonable upkeep of the temple.

It reaches the level of national repentance when we see our society wholesale just accepting, almost justifying such behavior; entertainments glorifying such behavior; and our laws being changed to worsen the crisis.  We mourn lives lost to COVID-19 (16,686 as of this writing), but according to the CDC, 10,497 people died in alcohol- imparied driving in 2016; 67,367 died due to drug overdose in 2018; 480,000 deaths due to cigarette smoking, 41,000 of those simply due to second hand smoke.  Now we there are growing efforts to legalize more and more "recreational" drugs.

Oh Lord Jesus, on this day when we especially remember that you hung on the cross to deliver us from sin, turn our hearts back toward you to experience your sweet forgiveness, your awesome deliverance, and your mighty healing of our land.
